Hi Parikh,

One of the possible reasons why you’re getting the error 0x8024401c on your computer is because of the inappropriate drivers, especially for older devices such as ethernet card, printers, etc. It would be best if you uninstall generic drivers and install the one that was provided by your manufacturer. We recommend that you follow these steps:

  1. Press Windows logo + X key.
  2. Click on Device manager.
  3. Select the none working driver.
  4. Right-click on it and open Properties.
  5. Open the Details tab.
  6. Navigate to Driver Id’s in the drop-down list.
  7. Open the Driver tab and uninstall the driver.
  8. Copy the first line, paste in your web browser and search for original manufacturer site.
  9. Download the drivers.
  10. Install them and restart the computer.

You may find a lot of results for your specific device. Kindly make sure that you download the drivers from the trusted sources.

Feel free to contact us if you have further inquiries.

Very strange thing is happening i am getting this error (0x8024401c) when trying to check for updates connected to internet via Wifi but if i change the wifi to a different network in wifi the update works absolutely fine. Windows store is also not working properly and so does microsoft websites in different browsers with that network. Previously they were working fine but from last 4 days not anymore.

I have also clean installed windows again [emphasis mine] but the same problem is still present. [SOURCE]

1. How many times have you "clean installed windows?"

2. Is it the same computer - not necessarily the same problem - as in your 02 August 2015 thread?

Q: How many times have you "clean installed windows?"
A: I have clean installed windows after starting to get this problem from around last 5 days and i also do it when any major update for windows 10 arrive like creator's update.

1. Again, how many times (total) have you "clean installed windows?"

Assuming the computer did NOT come with Win10 preinstalled and assuming you upgraded a Win7 or Win8.1 computer to Win10 and assuming you never had a Beta Preview version of Win10 installed, you may have "clean installed" Windows 10 once, twice, thrice, or possibly four (4) times.

2. When you're at home, does the computer connect to the internet via a mobile wireless connection or via a wireless router that's connected to an ADSL or broadband modem?

3. What OS Build of Windows 10 Version 1703 is currently installed?

  • Press & hold the Windows Key and press the R key. In the RUN dialog, type WINVER and press the Enter key.

Answer-by-number:

1. When (approx. date) did you purchase the Win8.1 computer?

2. Who manufactured the computer (e.g., Dell; HP; Acer; Lenovo; ASUS)?

3. When (approx. date) did you upgrade the Win8.1 computer to Win10?

4. Has a Norton application or a McAfee application EVER been installed on the computer since you bought it?

5. Have you ever run the Norton Removal Tool and/or the McAfee Consumer Products Removal Tool?

6. When you did the last "clean install" of Windows 10 Version 1703, were the contents of My Documents folder still there/preserved?

One more funny thing i just noticed is that if i use VPN updates start working again and this error disappears.

So is this a problem with my ISP or network configuration?

Fact: McAfee (and Norton) applications are notorious for not uninstalling (or upgrading) cleanly. The "leftovers" may be your troublemaker here.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
1. Download/run the McAfee Consumer Products Removal Tool & reboot.
2. Reset WU in Win10 using the script (BAT file) in OPTION THREE of this tutorial => https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/24742-reset-windows-update-windows-10-a.html [1]
3. Reboot once more then test by running a manual check for updates.
