KB3119142 installs successfully, but then installs 4-5 times a day for last week

During Windows 10P normal updates, I am getting a:

Update for Microsoft Visual C++ 2012 Update 4 Redistributable Package KB3119142

This installs successfully.  But I happened to see that it appeared to be updating again.  I checked the update log and found that it is installing itself 4-5x a day for the last 5 or so days.  If it was successful, why does it do this?

I have this problem too.  I rant the troubleshooter and got the same error message "Service registration is missing or corrupt".

I then found another thread with the same problem and it had a solution.  I applied the solution and it solved the repeated update problem for me.

Just follow Annie's answer at http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_10-update/repeated-install-of-kb3119142/1c04fd5a-c27f-42f0-bb2d-e6a009da96c2:

However, two things to note:

* Unlike Annie, I wasn't required to restart my computer

* The troubleshooter still reports the above problem with service registration.

Thank you for the prompt reply. I did follow Annie's steps to resolve the problem. It did prompt me to restart. When I restarted I immediately check for updates and did not install Microsoft Visual C++ 2012 Update 4 Redistributable Package KB3119142 update. So it has seems to have resolved the issue. Thank you so much! I appreciate the help! As for the second reply to this thread. I did not try those steps LrionL suggestion seems to have worked. If it pops again I post to this thread. Thanks to all :D You guys are indeed #awesome!

My error is slightly different. Windows update shows KB3119142 to have successfully installed on 13/01/2016 but that installation failed on 15/01/2016. It is not listed in Control Panel | Programs and Features | View Installed Updates. Windows update was hanging at 0% downloaded.

I did a repair on Microsoft Visual C++ 2012 Redistributable (x64) - 11.0.6130 and rechecked Window update which now told me that I was up to date. I then ran the Windows Update Troubleshooter and I got exactly the same report as Jason Tobin "Service registration is missing or corrupt".

I'm reluctant to run Sumit's Full Reset Windows updates as it involves extracting .rar files and appears to have had mixed results.

Any other ideas ?

I ran the troubleshooter and it found no problems.  Need a screen shot?  It just says like three categories, no issues detected.

I guess its a different issue to what the guy below is talking about.

Any fix?  That guy's suggestion below about a reset script shows file not available, and its from some guy's OneDrive.  I don't feel good about installing some windows script coming from some guy's one drive...

Go with the steps I followed and see if that helps. Here I will copy and paste them here from "Arne's" thread it worked for me.

1. Went into Programs and Features list of installed programs.

2. Right clicked on Microsoft Visual C++ 2012 Redistributable (x64) - 11.0.61030

.....then clicked on Change, then clicked on Repair.  After repair was completed, I was instructed to Restart my computer.

After reboot, the problem was gone.

1.The script is in zipped form, not RAR.Without using any software would also extract.

2.If I put it without zipping, either drive would not upload/your AV will throw it into quarantine.

3.Can you give some examples regarding mixed results? It resets all windows update components, registers Windows update files again-Can say service registration.

I do not think it has/would caused any harm to anyone/yours computer.Rest all your choice.

Additionally you can also manually reset the components.

Search for Reset windows update components on your favourite search Engine :)

hope that helps.
