Windows 10 Microsoft Account Sync not working

I'm just setting up a new SurfacePro4 running Windows 10 and trying to set the "Settings > Accounts > Sync your settings" option to be active.  I can turn the sync settings on and it appears to be active, but if I leave the menu and come back it's all disabled again??

I've followed the exact same steps on 2 other devices - no problems.  I'm not seeing any errors, it just won't save the settings.

The only difference between this and the other devices is the others were upgraded from Win 7 and Win 8.1, so I didn't have the option to nominate the device as "belonging to an organisation or a personal".  In this case I chose organisation and joined an Azure AD (via my O365 subscription).    That said - the other devices have also joined that Azure AD - just 'after the fact' rather than during the initial Win10 install.

Any ideas?  I've been searching but can't find any reports of others with the same problem??

Actually - just realised another difference... the other devices have not yet installed the cumulative update for Win 10 as they're still in the "you can roll-back Windows if you like" grace period.

Many thanks,

Sorry - didn't notice you had edited your original post...

I'm connecting as per my original description - i.e. not joining a Domain, but the SurfacePro was setup to join the Azure AD.

I ran the troubleshooter and it reported:

Turn on sync for individual settings

The following settings have sync turned off

Installed Apps

[Next]

Troubleshooting has completed

...

Issues Found

No rootcauses found and created logs  [Detected]

Some settings have sync turned off [Detected]

(presumably the setting I've been trying to turn on)

All other Issues were listed as [Not present]

I clicked the 'more information' links but there was nothing there.

I then rebooted - coincidentally (I think) the Surface installed some updates during the reboot - not sure if any were related....

Still doesn't work.

I ran the troubleshooter again, this time with my antivirus & firewall (AVG - same as on the other PC that works) - exactly the same issues found, and didn't resolve the problem.

What now?

I am experiencing the same problem as WebGeorge (i.e. "I can turn the sync settings on and it appears to be active, but if I leave the menu and come back it's all disabled again").

My configuration is:

- Three computers, all running Windows 10 Pro (with automatic updates enabled, so all on latest version)

- An Office 365 Business Premium subscription with three user accounts

- All the computers have been joined to Azure AD

I am able to log onto any of the devices with an Azure AD / Office 365 account. Windows allows me to enable "Sync your settings" (button turns blue) but, when I go back to the Sync your settings menu, the button has turned  grey again (and the settings do not Sync across the devices)

Looking at the advice from Amarjet_Paul above, I have run the Account troubleshooter and get an error report of "Microsoft account required".  So I added  a Microsoft account (in Settings/ Your email and accounts / Accounts use by other Apps) and got the same error.

I have also tried the second suggestion (disable anti-virus) and the problem remains.

Any ideas please?

Thanks

I am getting the same issue, have had it for a while.  I've got a theory though, not sure if it's got any wings but here goes.

Normally when you build a Win 10 PC and use your Microsoft Account you have to go through some additional security to register the device against your account.  When you connect a Win 10 PC to AzureAD and add the Microsoft Account as a secondary account you don't get this prompt.  I suspect its this device registration process that allows the sync to work.  I've had a look but I can't see a obvious way to force registration of a device into a Microsoft Account.

Thoughts?

We have the same issue. Join to AAD, lose sync even with MSA. It's broken and haven't heard any response.

Yep - seems Microsoft doesn't care about this one.

In my case I had a long running Microsoft Account associated with many things including a personal OneDrive and various Microsoft services.  That account was under the same email address as my more recent Office365 account.  So I seemed to have both a Business and Personal account using the same email address.  That had been annoying for sometime so I decided to change the personal account to use a gmail address as the primary...  and after some back and forth it seems now everything syncs.

I find it both slightly annoying and mildly amusing that the only way to get all the Microsoft Accounts to play together was to change one of the a Gmail address - but there you have it.

I don't really think this "fixed" the problem in this thread... rather it seemed to provide a circuit breaker to reset things and the syncing started working after that.

Good luck!

I also have the same problem on a Surface Pro 4 running Windows 10, and I reported this to the Azure team via our Office 365 admin console more than a month ago.

The "Sync your settings" problem started for me as soon as I joined my Surface tablet to Azure AD.  The Azure team rep called me back said that this feature was not yet fully functional; no estimated time to when it might be fixed was given ether.

I sure hope they get this fixed soon.  When I when use the feature on other machines not joined to Azure Active Directory, it works great (because it is associated with a  Microsoft/Outlook.com account). But on any Azure-joined machines our company owns, the feature cannot be used.  The minute you remove it from the Azure-AD-joined machine, it will work fine (if your using an Outlook.com account).

Could someone from Microsoft who understands this issue please comment?  We'd all be very appreciative were some sort of explanation given concerning this along with an estimated date as to when the feature will be working.
