Another user on this device uses this Microsoft account, so you can't add it here

I have problem linking my Windows Live account with my Domain account.

I receive an error in Windows 10 "Another user on this device uses this Microsoft account, so you can't add it here"

I removed my Windows Account from PC and from OneDrive.

I can't link it to any domain account, so maybe some other settings should be removed.

Any ideas ?

I had the same problem, the origin was a locaI account linked with my Microsoft Live account, when I tried to link the same Microsoft account to my domain account Windows showed me the same error. I tried to delink the Microsoft account of my local account but didn't work, deleting the local account didn't work either.

I thought that the problem was in the registry and I found this key:

HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-18\Software\Microsoft\IdentityCRL\StoredIdentities\*** Email address is removed for privacy ***

where *** Email address is removed for privacy *** is, obviously, my Microsoft account. Note than probably the user SID (S-1-5-18)  will be different in your PC.

Just deleting this key I was able to link my Microsoft Live account with my Domain account. Do it at your own risk and only if you know what are you doing. If you finally decide to delete it you should make a backup of the key ;)

This worked like charm!!

I have tried deleting the local account, its profile folder on c: and on profilelist on registry without luck. But this helped me.

Worked.  Type regedit, Right click to run as Administrator.  Export registry for safety.  Delete the key that matches your Microsoft email address. l then logged off and upon login I could reenter the Microsoft Email account!!

I setup Windows 10 from scratch on my Surface 3 pro.  Then I setup just as a local account with my Microsoft email.  I latter move to an Active Domain account and could not use Cortana.  I removed the first local account and still could not use Cortana with error "Another user on this device uses this Microsoft account, so you can't add it here. "    This registry hack let my use Cortana with my Domain login!

This solution worked for me....seemed a little cloogey when trying to login again but it came around.  Cortana is now working....I even got it going to Google for searches. :)
