My HP laptop takes a long time to wake up in Windows 10

Hi,

My laptop did not have this issue in Windows 8.1. My laptop is intel i7-2630 QM CPU @2.00 GHz.

It has 6 gb of installed memory and 64 bit operating system. zit is more than 3 years old. I don'tuse it for any heavy gaming or something.

I never had this issue before but with Windows 10 it takes a long time, more than a minute to wake up from sleep.

I did some preliminary stuff that is suggested in community but to no avail.

Does anyone know what may be the issue?

Thanks,

Sankar

Hi Sankar,

Thank you for posting your query in Microsoft Community.

I understand the inconvenience caused to you. I will be glad to assist you with your issue.

This issue could be caused due to the following reasons:

Power Settings.

Third Party Hardware/Software conflicts.

Let’s try the following methods to resolve this issue:

Method 1:

I would suggest you to run the Power troubleshooter and check if it helps.
a)    Press the ‘Windows Key + W key on the keyboard.
b)    Type troubleshooter in the search box and then press enter.
c)    Select Troubleshooting. Click on view all and select Power.
d)   Click next and follow the on-screen instructions.

Method 2:

I would suggest you to disconnect all the external devices (printers, scanner, USB (universal serial bus) drives, etc...) except mouse and the keyboard and then wake the computer from sleep mode and check if it helps.

If this fixes the issue, then add the devices one after the other until you discover the piece of hardware causing the issue.

Method 3:

If the issue still persist, I would suggest you to restore the power plan to the default settings

a.    Press Windows Key + X, and select the option Control Panel (Classic View).

b.    Click on the Power Options icon.

c.    Click on Change advanced power settings.

d.    Select the option “Restore default settings for this plan”.

Let us know if it helps. For further assistance feel free to post your queries in Microsoft forums. We will be glad to assist you.

Thank You.

Thanks. I followed your instructions.

The step1 of your procedure did some trouble shooting and came up with answer that it fixed it. But it is still the same.

The step 2 does not apply to me because I have no peripherals connected to it. I took out the mouse but it is still the same.

Same story with step 3.

I am not sure what is the issue with my laptop. I have one desktop pc where it wakes up from sleep instantly.

Thanks for all the suggestions. Until some solution is found I will use my MacBook.

Thanks and Regards,

Sankar

Hi,

I got a canned email from Microsoft community that had 3 options, asking me about an update or marking it has been answered or taking a survey.

I already replied about a week ago that the answer that was suggested to me did not work. As of today, I am having 2 to 3 minute delay in waking up from sleep. When I had Windows 8.1, this did not happen.

I am trying different startup options but so far no luck. But now I get some auto generated beautiful pictures from Microsoft.

Regards and Thanks,

Sankar

Having the exact same issue.  Laptop about 3 years old, woke up from sleep mode in Windows 8.1 in about 10 seconds

Takes 75 seconds to wake up in Windows 10.

No peripherals, etc.

Also, having Windows Edge open, then going to sleep, it's no longer open when coming back.
