5.1 Channel Surround Sound not working in Windows 10.

I recently upgraded to Windows 10 from Windows 7.

Upon doing so my 5.1 surround sound home theater system is no longer working.  It is a Samsung CT-5550 Home Theater System.

I am using an Optical cable from my Home Theater system into the back of the motherboard.

I have installed Realtek's Windows 10 driver, Gigabytes Windows 10 driver, the driver that came with my motherboard, that previous worked on Windows 7 and fiddled with all manner of settings between all of them and nothing.  It is not working.

When I set the output to 5.1 and run a test, it tells me Test Tone failure.

The highest output I can get is 2.1 channel @ 48hz.  I can get 2.1 @ 92khz but it's spotty.  The curious thing is, when I test the Encoded option for Dolby, it works.  I can hear it out of all speakers.

Please someone, anyone, fix this for me.

For reference, here is what I'm looking at.

This is my speaker system.

When I test the Encoded Format Dolby Digital, the test runs through all the speakers and I can hear the tones.

Dolby Digital Plus is listed as "On" but for some reason did not show in screenshot.

This is what I get once I set both Realtek control panel and default format to both 5.1 channel surround sound and run a test.

All is set as it should be, it's just not working.

When running vlc go to the top menu and select audio device, default or othersound devices.

Pick the one that is digital out to the receiver or digital speakers.

Next select audio track.

The device selected is not dependant on the windows default sound device

and can be switched on the fly.

Unless the sound device is hard coded for DD or DTS it will only output multichannel

audio if the source is encoded as such, unless ac3 filter is used

You say that like didn't spend all night trying to do that (again).  It does not work with VLC player.  Will not bitstream through Nvidia HDMI (to optical converter w/ bitstream).

It will also not work through Realtek because of this W10 bug.

If the hookup is from hdmi to tv no but from coax or fiber yes.

I am running both on realtek and creative sb 24 and it will work if

vlc is set to use that device but not hdmi, unless it is connected through

to a decoder.

If it does not work then the proper drivers are not installed and the system

is using the microsoft basic driver.

So in short even with the latest 10586 build MS didn't fix the dolby digital live issue.

DOES ANYONE AT MS read these forums. We need a dam fix.

My expensive sound system is collecting dust because of your incompetency.

Hello, Jgr9000. I still follow you in this thread even though I went back to 8.1 pro.

Have you had a chance to test the new 14339 build?

If you do, would you please try the Skyrim credits and let me know if they're output in 5:1 (10586.1) or stereo

(10586.3)?

Thank you.

Nope, not here in the Slow Ring yet, and I'm not moving to the Fast Ring, sorry.

And I haven't had Skyrim installed in years, but I've got stuff that I can accurately test the surround sound with anyways.

But it should be here, or public, within 2 months or so.  Hopefully sooner to the Slow Ring.
