Robocopy multi-threaded copies

Greetings,

I couldn't find a forum for the command line or Robocopy.

I'm using Robocopy to backup my files, and it takes several hours. I'm thinking of trying the multi-threaded (/mt) option, but I haven't been able to find much documentation about it.

The default value for multi-threaded (/mt) is 8 threads. Where should I start? Task Manager says my computer has two cores and four logical processors. Or does it depend on my network?

The range for multi-threaded is 1 to 128. Could anything bad happen if I try a value too high?

Thanks,

Shane.

Thanks for your feedback.

I should have mentioned that in my first post.

I'm not connected to a domain server. I have an external hard drive connected to my home network, and another drive connected directly by USB 3.

I want Robocopy to run as quickly as possible. I close all other applications, and I'm not worried about the network being saturated.

Thanks,

Shane.
