How to resolve 'WslRegisterDistribution failed with error: 0x80070057' in Kali Linux subsystem (Windows 10)?

When I would like open Kali terminal in Windows 10 

I see this error message:

Installing, this may take a few minutes...
WslRegisterDistribution failed with error: 0x80070057
Error: 0x80070057 The parameter is incorrect.
Press any key to continue...

And when I press any key to continue, I see the terminal closes

How can I resolve this problem?

i have same problem.. my kali was working fine until i updated via the Microsoft store

It's not really helpful when multiple users state that they're having the same issue, without being able to provide any solution or hints.

This error has been addressed in an issue on the GitHub wsl repo, where a workaround was suggested by @benhillis.

On my machine this could be solved by running bash and updating the subsystem - no reinstall necessary:

open a commandline Shell

C:\> bash

$ sudo apt-get update

$ sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

$ <CTRL-D>

C:\> exit
