Sketchpad has completely disappeared from Ink Workspace

I have tried rebooting and turning Ink workspace on and off from settings and taskbar. It is only showing me Whiteboard and Fullscreen snip. Did Windows do away with sketchpad, forcing me to login with a Windows ID to use Whiteboard? Or is this a bug from a recent update? Or is there anything else I can try?

This update has completely ruined my Microsoft Surface.  I have been using it for crossword solving and setting for 2 months faultlessly - and it suddenly no longer let's me do either of these.

I remember why I swapped to the Mac ten years ago now.  I'd been told Microsoft had stopped this sort of stunt with Windows 10 - evidently not.

What a mess.

Wow- finally I see I'm not the ony one. Took me hours today to figure this out.

I have a brand new HP Envy (just a few days ago), and installed Win10pro, MS Office Pro and had the ink workspace. Looks good to me, so I ordered the HP Tilt Pen - ready for the future.

Hell no! I received the tilt pen today, and the ink-space was not showing up anymore.

Thought is had to do with drivers for this pen/stylus. but it's not.

So I spend a lot of money (almost EUR 2000), now leaving me with a tilt pen that doesn't support the tilt option anymore. Just after a few hours I received it.

Called the HP support and they told me that the tilt option is only available in Sketchpad and not whiteboard.....

Glad to see it has nothing to do with the hardware itself, just stupid sw engineers.

As-we-speak I am busy rolling back updates, and kill the updates voor next few months. Hope MSoft will give a good alternative in the mean time.

Sketchpad was the killer app for the Surface Pen. Now it's gone. I was planning on buying the first Surface Pro that came out with USB-C charging. Now I'm not.

Great job, Microsoft.

So far this is the best alternative that I've found:

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/p/inkpaint/9nblggh4vww6

It's not quite as minimal, and it has an annoying pop-up on launch, but at least it isn't Whiteboard.

Me too, I tried uninstalling some of the updates but its not the same... So many glitches, problem with touch, notification center can't press, screen gets stuck, Netflix crashes, Photoshop and illustrator gets broken every time I open on screen touch keyboard, half of Photoshop is not visible when you close the keyboard! I had perfectly running surface pro and now this update has made it so **** and annoying!! One week passed and still no fix!!! We spend lot of money and get a perfect device with all accessories and just with a single update everything is ruined. I wonder if they do this purposely so we will buy the better and new surface thats coming on October!

Thank you very much, I was pissed off with Microsoft, sorry! Appreciate your help. I have solved the issues by deleting all the updates that was installed (select one by one and deleted all the updates that was installed on the computer BUT I did not remove any security updates, it will say if its a windows update or a security update) and I turned off auto updates and set it to a very far date. After that you have to restart your computer (after uninstalling all and changing auto update date).

My surface pro 6 is functioning now like before and I got the good old Windows ink Workspace and sticky notes wall back on. I'm not gonna update my system on auto after this and not before most of the people have tried and liked a new update.

Cheers!

I have found a workaround that is kinda OK that doesn't involve uninstalling updates.

Create a blank white png file the same size as your screen resolution, and open it with Snip & Sketch. Then it's pretty much exactly the same drawing experience with the same tools as Sketchpad had (including the pencil with tilt). But unfortunately

  • edits doesn't persist after you close it
  • It doesn't open full screen, so you don't get the same sized canvas

Hey Microsoft! Quit screwing with my laptop.  This kindof ****  is why I hate relying on Windows apps.  I have a system and this may seem like a small issue but i just spent 15 mins (wasted) trying to figure out how I can keep doing my job.

Really pisses me off.

What I don't understand is what criteria was used to replace a multi-functional app with full featured sketch functionality to a split app which makes the experience much more difficult and confusing, while removing some of the sketch capabilities of what makes a Surface product a reasonable investment?
