Add "outlook.live.com" as an application for mailto links?

A few weeks ago, one of my Hotmail accounts started displaying the message "Add 'outlook.live.com' as an application for mailto links?" just below the address bar (in a browser). My other Hotmail accounts have never shown this message. There is no "Okay, don't bother me again" option. Can someone tell me what it means?

Thanks for getting back to us and for the information provided. Based on what we’ve found out and further checking on this concern, this is browser related. There’s a specific setting in Firefox and Pale Moon that’s detecting the Outlook web compose link from that account as an application to be used for mailto links.

You may try checking this support article: Change the program used to open email links | Firefox Help from the Firefox website support on how to modify it from there. You may try checking the mailto option to see if the link for Outlook web compose is indicated there. For additional assistance, you may reach out directly to the support team of Firefox to assist you with the other steps and specific details about the browser settings related to mailto.

The same goes with the other browser being used where the issue also occurs, you may contact the support team of Pale Moon to walk you through on how to check the settings for mailto in that browser.

Note: If the issue is related to the other browser from another developer, we can only provide general or basic steps to troubleshoot the issue, as it varies depends on its developer. It would still be recommended to contact the support team of the browser involved to get appropriate and extensive troubleshooting steps that work with it.

Should you have any clarifications, don’t hesitate to let us know.

Best regards.

Louie
