Adding custom themes to PPT 2013 start/new screen

I would like to be able to install several design themes or templates to the "new" screen or start screen (not sure what it's called). Currently, it lets me search the web for new templates/themes and it lets me see what templates/themes MS installed, but I can't find how I can put me own themes in there. I work in an office where we have a few templates and I'd like to make life easier by letting them select our corporate designed themes more easily.

For further clarification, this is the screen when you start PowerPoint or click on "New" from from the File menu. I want to put my own theme on that screen. I'd even like to go further and delete the MS default templates.

Thanks for your help.

Hi,

There is no such option available in the PowerPoint to save the custom themes under the ‘New’ tab.

However if you save the theme or the design as a PowerPoint theme, then you will be able to access these themes in the Custom folder next to the New folder under the File tab.

Insert the custom theme or the design to the presentation > Click on Design tab > Select the small arrow button in the Design section > Select ‘Save current theme’.

I hope this information helps. Reply with the results to assist you further.

Thank you.

This is possible. Not sure why Microsoft made it a little more difficult in 2013, but that is another discussion.

You can have any number of your own templates & themes displayed in the Personal Tab (once its displayed).

Very useful for organizations with standard themes / who will never use the off the shelf / featured themes.

Taken from a combination of http://www.poremsky.com/office/use-office-2013-local-templates/ & http://www.indezine.com/products/powerpoint/learn/themes/2013/change-default-template-theme.html

1) Set your default personal templates location (PowerPoint Options - Save - Default personal templates location)

  •     Save all of your templates & themes in that folder.
  •     Name the themes as "____ theme" and templates as "____ template" as they aren't distinguishable from each other on the start screen ;)

Once the folder location is set the "Personal" tab will show up on the PowerPoint start screen with all your templates

2) Set the Personal Tab as the default (useful for organizations with Themes/ Branding standards, which I suspect is most organizations)

Open the registry editor and modify (or add) the following key in the registry.

          HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\office\15.0\PowerPoint\options
          DWORD: officestartdefaulttab
          Value: 1
