Hi DIVYANSH,

I got the same problem when I tried to upgrade my Windows 7 netbook. I have done numerous upgrade attempts and it always failed in the first restart. Same as you, only show black screen with a large circle and 0% for 4 - 5 seconds, and then it restarts and go back to windows 7.

But thank God my failed upgrade hell ended just a few hours ago and I want to share what I did. I hope it can help you (and other people who get the same issue) get out of your hell too. Just remember that I'm not a tech expert and I don't even know why my past attempts failed and why it succeded now.

Here's how I got my upgrade:

1. Backup all important things (files, software installer, driver) to a safe place. In my case, I backup my data to cloud and DVDs, plus I set up a file backup using Windows 7 native backup feature.

2. After I feel all my data is safe, I reinstall Windows 7 via advanced recovery option. I picked the choice that says it will reinstall windows and I might lose my files. After that my netbook restarts and reinstall Windows 7.

3. After my Windows 7 is installed and activated, I uninstall any program that I don't need (my Windows 7 is OEM so it reinstalled with it's bloatware). And then I run the Windows Update, check for updates and install all of them including optional updates. I repeat the process over and over again until I there's no more update needed to be installed. The only update I didn't install is Microsoft Security Essentials because it always failed, and I don't really want to install it anyway so I skip it. This is the longest step actually, I need about 5 days to download and install all of them.

4. I look up to a folder named ESD in my C: drive, enter the Windows folder and run the setup file. The fact is, I really don't know what sort of folder it is and why it exist in my netbook, but I have a hunch that it contain downloaded files from when I tried to upgrade via Media Creation Tool. On one of my previous failed attempts, I had run the setup file and it runs the upgrade window.

5. The setup run and tried to upgrade my netbook. I choose to skip checking for updates, continue the process and click install. I made sure the power is plugged in, and then I left my netbook, pray, and sleep.

6. When I wake up about 2 hours later, I found that the upgrade has reached the first restart, showing the black screen with large circle. What made me happy was it actually progressed to 25 %.

7. I was still worried it might get another error, so I just leave it continue the upgrade process, and sleep for another 3 - 4 hours.

8. When I wake up, my netbook greet me with "Welcome back, lisally" in Windows 10 styled screen which then guide me through the quick set up. And I knew I succeded this time :')

After that I played with my new Windows 10 and familiarized myself with the interface. The only problem I notice right away is my graphic driver is not installed or detected, but I found it listed as available update in Windows Update. And it's automatically downloaded.

Funny thing is, I didn't even try to tweaks some things up, like some of those articles on the net suggest. I leave all my driver enabled and my internet connection active. I didn't touch the command prompt or delete some suspiscious folders. What I do is just reinstall (or clean install) Windows 7, install all updates, and run the upgrade. (And, oh right, I got no antivirus or antimalware installed.)

Well then, hope you have a better luck with your upgrade :D
