Build 14977: Mobile Install Failure - 8007007B

Hello Insiders,

While attempting to install build 14977 for Mobile, you may hit an error:  8007007B

Unfortunately if you hit this error, you will not be able to install 14977.  There is no workaround.  You'll need to wait for our next Mobile build release.

This issue does not affect all devices and there is no long-term harm from encountering it.  The device will simply fail the install and boot back to your current OS build.

We're already working on a resolution so all applicable devices may receive the next update.

Thank you as always,

Jason

Probably because it is an Insider build, and on the fast ring at that. The description for insider fast is "Best for Insiders who enjoy being the first to identify issues and provide suggestions and ideas to make Windows devices great."

Unlike actual releases of Windows, where it would be absolutely disgraceful if a bug like this gets through, they don't promise to roll out fully working fast builds. The fast ring is the ring which will have the most issues and this can include issues in setup. It is actually the ring that they use to find issues like this.

So you should be glad, you helped identify a problem just by trying to update to this build.

Do you realize this is an test build, insider are beta builds, So errors are to be expected,  Your rant it totaly out of place.

If this was a public release you would be right.

You actually signed up for this and were warned about bugs, errors etc etc.

Agree. I was able to install it on my hacked Lumia 1020. But it won't install on a newer WINDOWS 10 phone? What is the irony? I'm curious to see if it will install on my wife's 640.

acording to Dona Sarkar is only the 8GB devices that are affected.

All other phones should install without any isssues.  It did install perfectly on my test devices. (950s and 950XLs)

"Errors are to be expected".  OK, I get the concept.  The VAST majority of issues I see reported here on this forum (going back a year or more) seem to be update related.  When the very first thing you try to do with a new build..... INSTALL IT.... fails, surely there is something very wrong with pre-release testing.

But what do I know.... my 950 doesn't even see the update.

To add, I have a Lumina 950 with 29GB free storage and I have error 0x800700aa trying to install this update.

If connected, I had to use the date trick on the update before the one before this. I also have more than one keyboard and language installed.

Hope this helps.

Correct me if I am wrong but my understanding is if you did the date trick this would become an issue with newer builds and it was recommended to reset to avoid future issues. Maybe, someone else can chime in on this because I don't want to be the one to tell you to reset your phone and than having wasted all that time you are back right where you started.
