Skype for Linux stays blank

I used to use Skype for Linux version 5.xxxx on Debian/stable. Today, an automatic upgrade to version 8.9.0.1 was installed (after an apt-get dist-upgrade). I had to launch Skype and type my credentials again, but Skype remains blank. All there is is a white window with a menu bar on top, but nothing happens when I click into that window or choose one of the menu items like "Help -> About Skype", "File -> View Profile...", "Tools -> Settings...".

Could this be fixed, please?

I encountered the same problem on Linux Mint 18.1 and therefore opened a similar discussion on the german forum.

Hoping this will be fixed as soon as possible.

I encountered the same problem on Linux Opensuse Leap 42.3. Hoping this will be fixed as soon as possible too.

Just for debugging, it might work as root...

sudo skypeforlinux

In that case, maybe it is due to an old chromium problem and this helps...

sudo chmod 1777 /dev/shm

No, it does not work as root on Debian/stable.

I don't have /dev/shm configured, but the other temporary file directories /tmp/ amd /var/tmp/ are writable for ervery user.

Good news, everybody!

Today's upgrade to version 8.10.0.4 has fixed the problem.

Thanks!
