I figured out a way to share add on content across multiple accounts and consoles, but is this allowed?

My year of live expired this month some time so my best friend of 20 years added me to his 'family' plan. It gave him one more month of xbox live, and cancled my account. He downloaded his profile to my console, and bought the addon for red dead redemption. After it was downloaded, he recovered his account on his xbox and re-downloaded the content on his console. Both the addons work, on both accounts on both consoles at the same time. Including multi player. His 'profile' still shows up on my account but is not valid as he recovered it again to his.

Because we are on a 'family' plan, which he is 'captain' of, is this a legal way of sharing content? I wanted to ask this before I downloaded all the map packs for black ops this way to save points. I would do it the oppisite. I would go to his house, recover my profile and buy the addons, then recover my account on my console and just download the addons and then we both can play.

A) is this allowed

B)If I drop out of this family plan and go solo, who would own what?

Thanks

It's nothing to do with the family plan. Rather it is how Microsoft license content.

Most DLC is licensed to two things, the console it was first downloaded on and the account used to purchase it.

Now on that first console all accounts can use the content, online or offline.

However on another console only the purchasing account can use the content and then only when connected to Live.

What your friend has done in this case is give you the console (or offline license) for the content. However his profile is still the owner of it.

He could quite easily stop you from using it by running the License Transfer Tool.
