GTA IV digital copy issue.

 Hi,

I just bought GTA IV on the Xbox Live market place in the ''On demand'' section. Everything was fine until i enter the game and get the ''Disk is unreadable'' error message. The thing is since it is a digital copy of the game i don't have a CD so i don't get it. I cleared my cache then reboot my xbox and it's still giving me the same error. I don't know if the file is corrupt and i need do redownload it but if it's the case i'll do that tomorrow.

I just wanted to know if there is something i can do to fix the issue before re-downloading a 6.51gb file.

Well, i re-downloaded the game and it 'still gives me the game error.

I hate to say it, but your hard drive could be failing.  The 360 gives same disc read errors for hard discs that it does for failing to read DVD's.  The best way to test this is the problem rather than a corrupt download is to use a USB flash drive.  The flash would have to have at least 7GB free.  To download direct to a USB flash drive you will have to move your profile to the flash drive, and remove your hard drive.

If the game works fine from the flash drive, your hard drive must be failing.

Alright i'll try that thanks. Would it work if i just plug in my hard drive on a friend's xbox? Oh and, if i need to buy a new HDD do the 250GBs work on an old 360 or does it only fit in a 360 slim?

You can still get the 250GB hard drive for the original console, but be carefull where you buy one from, DON'T buy one from eBay because 99% of them are fakes. 

 

If you plugged your hard drive into a friends you would still have the same issue, there is something wrong with your hard drive.

 

The smaller black looking hard drive is only compatible with the 360 S console.  In short, only buy from a reputable retailer, don't buy from a re-seller or an auction site.

I see. The thing is i dont have an external hard drive or a usb flash drive with enough space to support a 7GB game so should i just buy a new hard drive since it is most likely an HDD issue?
