XBox not connecting to Live, even after Port-forwarding 2701HG-B Gateway

Im having quite a bit of trouble with connecting to Xbox Live, and I'll start from the beginning.

 

I bought a refurbished Xbox Pro 20G Online and got it today. I started it up, and tried to get the network up and running, however I've not been able to. I tried to connect, and its connecting to the internet, however its not connecting to XBox Live. I then looked it up online and tried portforwarding on my 2wire 2701HG-B Gateway, and Im still not connecting at all. Is their a certain problem going on that im not aware of thats causing my 360 not to connect? Please post a response, I don't want my purchase to be in vain.

Are you getting any error messages? Have you tried connecting the console directly to the modem instead of the gateway? If not do that, be sure to power down both before you connect it. Then power up the modem, wait a minute, then power up the console. Can you connect?

 

 

Where did you buy the refurb? It is possible the previous owner did something that got the console banned from XBL. It is always buyer beware when dealing with USED/REFURB consoles.
