Xbox headset not playing sound

Hi guys, I have a Xbox Arcade and I bought a Xbox 360 headset today, but no matter what I try I still can't hear any sound. I tried reconnecting it with both my wireless controller, but it won't work. Please help and what should my audio and sound settings be?

Hi there.

Can you be a little bit more specific on the headset itself. Is it the standard xbox 360 wired headset that plugs into the controller? Or a proper audio headset used for gaming (example: Turtle beach / Tritton / Ear force headsets)?

Even so, all of these headsets will have a volume switch / scroller attached to them somewhere, if so be sure it's not set to zero. :)
