I get a blank screen when I switch from hdmi to component cables

Ok so I have a ps3 and a 360 and hd directv. All of them use hdmi. But my tv only has two hdmi ports. I get tired of switching back and forth with the hdmi I use on my 360 and ps3 so I decided to just use the component cables on the 360 and leave the hdmi's for the ps3 and directv. My problem is that after I switched to the components I get a black screen but I still hear the audio. So what am I doing wrong? Or are the cables faulty or the 360 messed up?  Or do I have to reset the 360 to recognize the component instead of the hdmi?

P.S  I do make sure that I have the tv on the right input. Also if I didnt have it on the right input I wouldnt hear audio. So please help.

What you'll have to do is to reset your display settings. By doing that:

Make sure the disc tray is empty.

Turn on the console.

On the controller, press and hold the right trigger and Y.

ok make sure you are plugging the blue, green, and red video cables and the red and white audio cables into the "component" input on the back of your TV. Make sure you're not plugging in the yellow red and white cables into one of the "video" outputs on the TV. I was doing that and trying to play in HD which didnt work. I believe you can play in 480p if you have it set on the regular TV switch.
