Can't connect to Xbox Live via wired modem connection and my Media Center no longer connects after the first successful time.

Alright here’s my complicated situation. I have a laptop, AT&T mobile broadband internet, a Xbox 360 and can’t connect to the Xbox Live. I know that there are lag issues as well as the issue of data minutes, but I know it’s supposed to be possible. I’m also having problems with my Media Center. The problem is I followed the directions and had it working, but when I disconnected it and tried to connect it again it failed to work. Over my time trying I’ve received two errors: Can’t connect to a static IP address and Can’t detect IP address. I tried to solve this issue by inputting my information manually, but that didn’t help either. Even if my internet isn’t fast enough to play a game online, but I’d at least like to download updates. If anyone could help much appreciated. PS. I am of course attempting to connect via a wired connection using my modem. I tried bridging my connections as I don't have the option to share my mobile broadband connection for some reason, but when I click it and my local internet connection or any other form of listed connection I don't have the option to bridge them.

Well I found out how to share my internet but now it says a update is required to sign i even though i just installed an update via a flash drive last night ugh

Sadly my problem is that the message says update unavailable meaning I can't get it, which is just weird as I need it to log on and you get updates through Xbox Live. I recently updated my Xbox via USB and that update won't install twice. I'm assuming though it was the newest one available it didn't contain the information required to log on Xbox live.
