an update is needed to log into xbox live!

when trying to log into xbox live I get a message "update failed" message contains the following:

an update is needed the system to log into xbox live, but the update is not currently available. if the problem persists, please visit www.xbox.com / support.

Try clearing your console cache by going to System Settings > Memory > Device Options > Clear Cache

Please go with Inferior's post if the automatic update doesn't work. Once the console has been updated you may connect to Xbox Live.
