I'm not able to run windows update. [Error number: 0x80244019]

I'm not able to run windows update. I get an error message:  [Error number: 0x80244019]  I have followed and tried all the suggestions on the support artical for windows Xp as that is what I am running [Error number: 0x8DDD0010] "When clicking a link, you see the HTTP Error 500 - Internal Server Error, Error 0x8ddd0010" but none of these solutions work.  I've tried the "Fix It program that auto runs but askes me to install  Windows XP Service pack 3 or later and .NET Framework 2.0 or higher from windows update but as you can see I can't get windows update to work so that doesn't really help.  Any ideas.. PLEASE HELP!

What XP SP level are you at?

But that's not going to help if you're not at SP3 level.

 

You need to be at Service Pack 3 level before you can use Windows Updates.

To determine which service pack is currently installed on your computer, follow these steps:

  1. Click Start, and then click Run.
  2. Copy and paste, or type the following command and then click OK:

winver

A dialog box displays the version of Windows and the service pack that is currently installed on your computer.

You may be unable to access the Windows Update website from Windows XP, Windows 2000 or Windows Server 2003

If you haven't already, you'll need to install SP2 and then SP3 (note SP1 doesn't exist anymore).
