I am having a problem with the Sims 3 and Windows 8

I bought an Inspiron 15r Special Edition Windows 8 version thinking that it would be the ultimate laptop for me. For the most part, it is. Unfortunately I am having an issue playing the Sims 3 with expansions on it. During game play only it crashes. An EA adviser mentioned that it may be my processor. The Sims 3 expansions demand a 2.40GHz processor and I am running a 2.20GHz. Still, that's pretty close.

Has anyone had any crashing issue during game play with Windows 8, and what solutions have you found? Also, does anyone play Sims 3 with a less than speedy processor?

Thanks!

Hi,

I understand that when you try to play SIMS 3 on your Windows 8 computer, it crashes. This issue could be caused because SIMS 3 is not compatible with Windows 8. Moreover the game requires 2.4 GHz of processor but your computer has 2.2 GHz processor.

Let us try to install the game in Windows XP compatibility mode and check if that resolves the issue:

Method 1: Uninstall and then re-install the game in Windows XP compatibility mode:

Follow steps to install in compatibility mode:

a) Download the driver setup file and save it on your local disk.

b) Right click on the setup file of the driver and select “Properties”

c) Select “Compatibility” Tab.

d) Make a check mark next to Run this program in “Compatibility mode” and select Windows XP from the drop down list.

e) Let the driver to install and then check the functionality.

Method 2: Update graphics card drivers.

Refer to the following link to update drivers of graphic card:

If the game still crashes while playing; I would recommend you to go through the following system requirements to run this game and upgrade your computer.

Thank you so much for the quick reply,

Boy am I hoping to avoid reinstalling the game because I have several expansion packs.

I should probably put more information about my computer down to see if it helps.

- Intel Core i7-3632QM CPU @ 2.20 GHz

- 8 GB of total physical memory

- AMD Radeon HD 7730M 2GB dedicated memory

- 1TB 5400 RPM SATA Hard Drive

The computer is a small powerhouse, which is why I am really bummed out about the 2.20GHz processing speed.

I will uninstall and reinstall the game as my last option before I sell the game. I am saving your answer so I know how to do it later on.

Is there any way to increase processor speed?
