Audio problems

Device HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_10EC&DEV_0295&SUBSYS_103C8615&REV_1000\5&1bb35b6b&0&0001 requires further installation.

Audio tests say it works but speakers aren't working properly.  Come on loud then go very quiet.  Earphones work fine.

Think there might have been an update yesterday but not sure.

Any ideas how to fix it?

Thanks

Hi Judithclarke1 and thanks for reaching out. My name is Joseph. I'm an independent advisor. I'll be happy to help you out today.

I would suggest you refer to the below steps and check if it helps to resolve the issue.

1. Press the Start Menu key and type, Device Manager then press enter.
2. Double-click the 'Sound, video and game controllers'.
3. Right-click the Realtek HD Audio driver then select the Uninstall device.
4. Restart your computer, and when it boots up, check to see whether or not the problem has been resolved.

If that does not solve the problem,

We need a bit more detail to be able to help you.

Please press the Start Menu and type DXDIAG and press the enter key.
Under the System tab, check the System Manufacturer and System model and let me know.

I hope this helps. Feel free to ask back any questions and let me know how it goes.

Thank you!

Hi Joseph,

Thanks for your reply.  It's still not working after uninstalling it.

It's an HP Pavilion Laptop 15-cw1xxx and it seems to think there's no problem with the sound.  When I check it on device manager it says there that it's working too.

It's so frustrating that it starts loud but then goes very quiet.

Thanks,

Judith

Hi Judithclarke1,

Download and install the latest Realtek High-Definition (HD) Audio Driver from the manufacturer's official website.

I hope this helps. Feel free to ask back any questions and let me know how it goes.

Thank you!

I had the same issue on an I had the same issue on an HP Pavilion Laptop 15-cw1xxx, despite it saying all drivers were up to date. In the end I solved it by updating the BIOS....but it seemed to take a couple of cycles through that before it actually made any difference.

Updating the audio drivers (several times) did not seem to have any impact.

I used the HP Support Assistant. I did make sure I select the UK region before looking for the drivers - I tried this yesterday, and while I cannot say for sure this made a difference, I know that updating the BIOS last night made no difference.

TL;DR: I tried updating the audio driver and BIOS more than once. One of them worked.

Thanks for your advice Joseph.  I got so fed up I did a system restore which fortunately I had set up. It must have been the updates that messed it up, as taking it back to how it was before the update worked and so far everything is working fine.

The problem will be if it tries to update again, but if it does I will try what you suggest.

Many thanks.

Hi Tomfuller4,

Thanks for your reply.  I'm not sure what BIOS is but I'll google it.  I'm pleased it's working again since I did a system restore but am dreading it happening again.  I'm pleased you got yours working.  It's so time consuming and frustrating.

It would be good if you could chat with a real person on the HP Support Assistant.  I tried the virtual one several times but didn't find it very helpful.

Anyway, thanks for your help.

Hi Judith - its jusr another driver, used to control the lowest level operation of the computer.

i used the HP Support Assistant->support resources->hp product support centre->software drivers and firmware->bios

the one change i noticed is that my machine now thinks my monitor is an audio device, alothugh it does not have any audio capability (it thinks the HDMI cable is an audio connector) - i think this is new...

good luck...
