Surface Pro 2 Turns On By Itself

Howdy.

Since the last firmware update, my Surface Pro 2, from sleep mode (just pushing the power button to turn it off), will occasionally turn on.  If it is powered off (choosing power off from the charms) it will stay off.  It does not matter if it is plugged in or not.

I don't think this has to do with the rebooting issue since when it turns on, it is not on the logon screen (which is the default screen on power on/reboot) but the regular start screen.

Has anyone else noticed this behavior?

Notice the system resumes from sleep exactly 1 hour after you put it to sleep when (wait for it) your power profile wants to hibernate your surface. Check your power profile (balanced I believe) and in the sleep setting, change hibernate after 60 minutes to "never" (hold the down arrow till "never") this is a temp fix but works better than shutting off your SP2 every time. This is due to a driver issue since the latest firmware update that conflicts, some say with your audio and microSd card. You're welcome if this works for you, worked for me and will have to do until January's update

I agree with you Steve,  I have been noticing the same problem. Sleep settings appears to work, but the problem appears to also happen regularly with a computer monitor attached. I find this latest update has inconvenienced me on several occasions when taking my computers to meetings and I have no battery power left.  I hope Microsoft sends a fix soon.  For now I turn off my pro 2 between periods as a precaution.

Thanks for the idea.

The fix seems to work. I turned the hibernate to never and then put the Surface to sleep and it stays asleep until I press the power button. The battery does not go down between uses like it was doing. Thanks.

So MS made junk and you're thinking - buy more of their junk to band-aid it???

Maybe this is the way MS reduces boot time -- just darken the screen -- for awhile?

BTW - mine has the same problem. Middle of the night it turns itself into a nightlight. Lights up the room and that then wakes me up to go power it off.

Waiting for the MS rep to advise me to leave it in a different room at night. That should resolve it.

I am not sure it is such a big deal to make me think I should have bought something else :-). Given that my Surface takes as much to boot or to wake up thanks to the new fast boot, it really doesn't cause me any major problem, if it will be fixed soon. Obviously it would have been better if they tested the update before releasing it, but this type of issues happens.

', but this type of issues happens.'

Especially when dealing with mediocrity in people and their work.

The holidays are gone now. Is there an ETA for a patch to fix this issue?

Use Hibernate, not Sleep.  Works very well.  Does not turn on by itself.

Issue solved as far as I'm concerned.

I am having similar issues as DTguy. Since my battery drains so fast, I now shutdown my Surface 2 before I put it away in my purse. Last night when I took it out it was extremely hot. Then it won't power on. I have to hold down the power button for 10 seconds and then push the power button over and over until it finally turns on.

I have had the powering on issue since the first day I received my Surface 2. This is an ongoing issue for me and is extremely frustrating b/c on several occasions it goes into repair mode and I have to wait awhile for it to finish. Nothing like having a tablet you can't use right away. I might as well have a laptop or computer instead.

Very Frustrated!!!

Why is no-one from Microsoft coming to answer this thread and fix this issue?

Mine switches itself on every time I go on a train. It's really strange. I take it out of my briefcase and it's red hot. This is very worrying.
