My .pst files somehow became .pst.XML files

Original Title: Help! My *.pst files somehow became *.pst.XML files..

My *.pst files somehow became *.pst.XML files after burning them to a disk. They were MS Office 2007 files. I burned them to a disk since I changed jobs. I went to open them at home using Office 2003 and everything was in .XML formats.  Even after I arrived at my new job with Outlook 2007, I cannot open them.  I changed the file extension to *.pst, deleting the .XML, and the icon changes to the familiar pst look, but Outlook will not recognize them as .pst files.

When I click on Properties,  windows explorere say its opens with XML editor, but that is not on my machine. It also says it opens with Notepad, but all that gets me is a jumble of zeros.

Went to the SCANPST.EXE file to do a diagnostic, but  no joy. The repair tool "does not recognixe the file, so no data can be recovered".  I also tried it with and without the .XML extension.

Can anyone help? Thank you..

Hi,

I have the same problem with importing the .pst file. I've made a back-up of the original .pst on a external disk. (copy /paste, no external software was being used) Somehow the file changed to .xml and I cannot use it anymore with Outlook. Is there a solution available for this problem?

I fixed this issue by rename it but ONLY DELETE the ".xml" from your file name. Good luck.
