Windows Media Player cannot connect to fai.music.metaservices.microsoft.com?

About a week and a half ago my Media Player stopped displaying CD information and when I right-click the album, and then select Find album info, it spins for a minute, then give me "This Page Cannot Be Displayed - Make sure the web address http://fai.music.metaservices.microsoft.com is correct.  I had not changed anything.  It just stopped working.  At first I thought it was something on my pc, but I have tried three different pcs on three different networks that have always worked.  I have been through all the suggestions of selecting all the options on the Privacy tab, but nothing works.  I am a 30 year IT veteran and an MCSE, so I have done some extensive troubleshooting already (not tooting my horn, but just establishing that I have eliminated most everything because I am sure MS hears that all the time).  My guess is that the fai.music.metaservices.microsoft.com site is down for whatever reason, and I do not know how to report it.  Any suggestions are truly appreciated.

Hi,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft community forum.

I appreciate your time and efforts in troubleshooting. I would like to inform you that after looking at customer feedback and usage data, Microsoft decided to discontinue metadata service. This means that new metadata won’t be updated on media players that are installed on your Windows device. However, any information that’s already been downloaded will still be available. You can read more about this here: Changes in metadata service affecting Windows Media Center and Windows Media Player.

I would like to know what kind of feedback can cause you to close a service that has been for like 20 years just like that.

Personally as a musician and a producer etc.. I have used it a lot and has been very pleased with this service in terms of recognizing composers, artists and musicians through NCB, Koda etc., when releasing or playing music in public...

Other services I have tried have not been that comprehensive or thorough...

I lost the service to because I have Windows 7 Pro and Microsoft cut us at the knees. So I now use MusicBee and have more and better information than media player ever gave me. Free to download and use.

Hi Naresh,

With that being said, Even if the search resulted in no matches, I was still able to then EDIT the song info from there, and type it in myself.  including track numbers and it seemed to save everything almost perfectly. I cannot get to even that point. Can that part come back at least?

With it as it is... I cannot even edit the file name, but with the old system, It would override. No Warning. No Service.

I checked out Music Bee - - it does NOT create mp3 files.  Ughhhh!!

Anyone know of any other music ripping software that actually creates good quality (I use 320 mps ripping settings), AND contains all the album/artist/song/composer/etc information?

That would be AWESOME if someone threw out a great alternative or two...

So basically what you are saying is, you don't care what your customers want. I had to do a complete restore of Windows, due to one of your "updates", and lost all the Metadata. I now have no way to update any of it ?What is the point of even having Media Player then. You people have no clue. No wonder so many people are jumping to Linux.

So, I guess microsoft is useless to me now. I do all my work on my Chrome laptop, and I use only google aplications.. Well, this dell laptop is gonna collect dust and rust from now on... I'll use Nero on my chrome for my music needs... Having external HDs has been an smart move for me... The Windows era it's over.
