Teams - How to add Contacts Outside my Organization?

Hello!

The company I work for is using Teams now, instead of Skype for Business. Considering we have external clients, we usually have to communicate with them online. It was easy to add them at Skype for Business, using the "Add a contact not in my organization" option, but I couldn't find a similar option at Teams. Is that possible? Thanks!

Answer

Hello Paola,

The short answer for your question above is Yes. We can add external users into our Teams contact list.  Before we can add the external user as a contact, the external user must be invited into the team in your organization as a guest user, then you would be able to add him as a contact into your Teams contact list, thanks.

1. Your Teams admin must enabled guest access in your organization,  For your reference https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoftteams/set-up-guests. If not, you would not able to invite external users guests into your team.

2. After the external user was successfully invited into your team as a guest user, then you would be able to add him as a contact.

3. Click Calls ( on the left menu of your teams)> Contacts > Add contacts > enter his email address ( you would be able to see a Guest near his email address)  and then click Add button to add him as your contact, thanks.

The most important is your Teams admin has enabled guest access in your organization and the external user must be invited into your team as guest user, then you would be able to add him as a contact, thanks.

If anything unclear, please feel free to let me know, thanks.

Regards,

Oliver
