Build 18204 High CPU

I have just upgraded to Build 18204. When I go to System Configuration Boot Advanced Processors 4 and Maximum Memory and reboot, the system run slows and when I check CPU in Task Manager it shows two processors and four  logical processors. When I uncheck processors and maximum memory and check task manager, it shows four processors and eight logical processors.

My computer is a intel quad processor.

I have a dual core CPU and it shows 4 logical processors so if yours is a quad core, 8 logical processors sounds about right.

So are you saying that the opposite is happening when you enable 4 cores? and that "Boot Advance" is in the bios menu right?

If so, I wish I could help you but I'm not familiar with those settings. Sounds like you need advise from someone with similar hardware and bios menu.

Nothing to do with BIOS. I was attempting to add more processors to be used at startup using System Configuration(msconfig) and then choose boot, advanced and for processors and maximum memory.

Yes, it is. I thought Microsoft would have fixed it. It is a problem and has worked in previous builds.

There seems to be a bug in the task manger display.  when I display my CPU in task manger it shows AMD  FX8350 8 core at the top right of the display.  At the bottom it shows 4 cores and 8 logical processors.  I posted this in the feed back hub as an inconsistency.

I'm sorry I missunderstood your issue.

I didn't know you can add cores via msconfig. I'll do some research and get accuainted with the procedure although my CPU is pretty modest and only a dual core, most likely not supported or even worth it.

Beware when you use msconfig to set a number of cores.  For example I have an 8 core processor and if i change the value in boot page of msconfig to 4, and then restart, the system is only 4 cores total and the other 4 are sitting idle.  I believe that this feature was put them so that the system could be throttled down rather.  The same type of throttle of course can be done in most BIOS by turning off cores.

Having only 2 cores I don't think I can do anything. I was just gonna do some research to learn the procedure and try to help DUCKS1951
