Restarting When Monitor Input Changed

Hey all,

I just got a new 4GB 360 S-series two weeks ago (from Best Buy) and so far I love it to bits. I just have one concern, though it's not a terribly big deal...

Right now I have my Xbox hooked up to my computer's monitor through an HDMI cable, as my monitor supports multiple input connections. Largely because my monitor is HD while none of the tv's in my house are. I have noticed that when I'm playing my Xbox, if I put the game on hold and switch the monitor's input to, say, check my email for two minutes, when I go to change the input back to the Xbox, the Xbox automatically and instantly restarts. Is there anything I can do to prevent it? I'm not leaving the Xbox idle long enough for it to shut itself off, so I don't quite understand why changing something on my monitor is affecting it.

Like I said, right now it's not a huge big deal since I at least know to make sure to save before I switch the input--though it was definitely inconvenient the first time it happened!

Oh--if it matters, I'm currently using a Turtle Beach headset connected to the digital output through an adapter.

No i have the same problem when i switch from Component to AV i assume that the Xbox does this because it needs to switch the pixels and stuff but i don't think their is anyway around this

Which adapter are you using with your console? If you remove the adapter, does the console display the same behavior?

Before the updates (the beta updates I could turn on my xbox get to the dashboard then switch to TV while I wait for the kids to come down and join me using the XBox. After the update when I change input on my tv back to the XBox's HDMI input the XBOX will reboot.

I  understand that there are some devices etc. That will need t he XBox to restart. But if there is a way to make the XBox not do a restart just because the TV Input changes that would be appreciated.

Fisrt of all , when you have an Issue , it's better to start a new Thread , and not to post in old threads that are not monitored by support agents.

This issue occurs because an Xbox 360 console automatically changes the video resolution based on each connection.

To prevent the console from resetting, manually set the resolution. To do this, follow these steps: 1.  Select Settings , and then select System .  

2.  Select Console Settings , select Display , and then select HDTV Settings .  

3.  Select the resolution that you want.  

So , When you manually set the resolution, your Xbox does not automatically change the video resolution.

An HDMI connection provides information to your Xbox 360. This information is known as the Extended Display Identification Data (EDID). The EDID provides information about the device that is connected to your Xbox (for example, your TV). For a TV, this information includes the optimal display resolution.

Based on the information in the EDID, your Xbox 360 will change the resolution to match the TV or other devices. This lets your Xbox 360 console adapt when you are configuring your AV setup. However, your Xbox 360 may reset when you change the video input.

Typically, your Xbox 360 console will automatically change within three minutes after it is turned on. After three minutes, your Xbox 360 console will ignore any EDID changes.

Note If you experience this issue after your Xbox console was on longer than three minutes, it may be an issue specific to your AV setup.
