No "XXX is online" notification

For the last few days I haven't been receiving friend online notifications, not even the annoying beacon notifications. 

The notification box is checked.

I have cleared the cache and power cycled console, router, and modem.

The only thing I can think of is that I changed my gamertag.  Would this be the cause of this??

Changing your gamertag is most likely not the issue. When I changed my gamertag back in September last year I never had an issue with notifications. I'll keep looking around to try and find an answer to your question but I just posted this to try and help you rule out a possibility.

Thanks for the reply.  I searched the forums and found that this is apparently a common problem, but didn't see that anyone else had changed their gamertag so decided to toss that into the mix.  

C'mon support!  This issue is out there, I am not the only one and it's very annoying!

Well, there could be a problem with your gamertag, remove it from the console and re-cover it by redownloading it. Have you tested on other gamertags on your console if they are poopin the messages? well, try it. thanks.

first try and log on with a differant account and see if it works before trying to delete and recover your profile. some people have had issues with recovery. I would hate for you to have 2 problems.

I have 2 gold profiles and the friends notification doesn't work on either. Must be happening to everyone

This is just something I think we will all have to be patient about. I have 2 gold tags, my husband has 2 and several of our friends have tags and everyone has this same problem. It's been going on for almost 2 weeks and currently we are just waiting it out until there's a fix.
