Getting kicked from online games, but not live or chat party?

Started out with Halo Reach, I can play games at times with no lag, but then all of a sudden when a games starting it will show as if everyone else has left and im kicked from the game. So I thought it was a halo problem, but no I tried nhl 12 online which was extremely laggy and I got kicked. I find it odd that I can connect to xbox live and even have party chats fine but can't play games online. Would my router be blocking connections or is it my internet isn't good enough to play these games online? Though that would seem weird as I've always been able to play online until a few weeks ago.

Any input on this matter is greatly appreciated

Exact same thing happens to me from time to time on Reach. The XBL connection remains intact, but the game shows as if everyone has left, and abruptly ends. I recently changed internet providers, so I'm thinking that's the source of the issue for me.
