From what I have read the only way I can move my gamertag to a different MS account is to find an xbox 360 and do it there.
Is that seriously the only way to do it?

you'd have to delete the account that the email address you. want to use (if it's a Microsoft account), on account.live.com.
once you do that you can sign in to account.live.com using the old email address that your gamer tag is currently on and change alias for it

When you say "change alias for it" do you mean add the email I want to keep as an email alias to the old account?

Hey User,
You are correct that the only way to change your
Gamertag to another Microsoft account is through using an Xbox 360 console.
I believe that nickisullivan meant was to go to
account.live.com and add another e-mail alias on your account and use that to sign in on your console.

Yea, I don't have a 360...
SO, I have two accounts:
Account A: My windows account, used for my windows login for my windows 8.1 machine. Not used for anything else.
Account B: My XBox Live account, with my gamertag and XBox Live subscription.
I am guessing the right thing is to close out Account A, and add that email address to Account B. But how will my windows 8.1 user profile more to the different windows account?

Unfortunately, that will not work as intended. Reason being, you can't close account A, as it has a gamertag attached to it. The only way to achieve what you are wanting to achieve, is to utilize a 3rd 'dummy' account to hold that unwanted
gamertag, and to do this, an Xbox 360 is needed.
All the details are listed in that link Mister Fizzle posted above.

you've got to be kidding. Sounds like they need to give free 360's to every xbox one owner so they can manage their accounts!
