Blocking purchases from Marketplace

I need to setup a passcode to block all purchases from xbox marketplace.

My ten month old pushed some buttons on the remote and for the second time purchased content using microsoft points, that I do not want.

I was told by phone support that even though the download was cancelled, I do not have any recourse available except to contact the xbox team that monitors this forum.  I was told that the only way to block purchases is to not log into Microsoft live.  Once logged in no blocking mechanism is available.  The also had the audacity to tell me that my 10 month old should have read the warnings and not pressed the purchase button!!!!!  Apparently adequate warnings are provided for even a 10 month old to know better!

Even though I love xbox Marketplace and use it frequently.  I have decided not to purchase any content from Marketplace, and not to purchase the new Microsoft phone, until this issue is resolved.

I expect two actions: 1) Microsoft to issue me credit for the unauthorized purchase. 2) allow me to passcode the purchases in marketplace using family controls.

Thank you.  Looking forward to receiving a response.

Strictly speaking, once a non-child account is logged in, you can't have a passcode to purchase. What I would recommend is either make the controller less available to "future gamers" or just log out of the profile when not in use.

I know this is not an option.  Why not?  This should be very easy to add.

There is an option it's called family settings

Create a child account for children or buy the family plan which will save you from buying multiple accounts

ngocphi, not sure who you are.  I am not trying to argue with you.

I am trying to provide feedback to Microsoft forum team about a deficiency in the software that the Microsoft Phone Support team admitted they had oven the phone.  They sent me to this location since they do not have the tools to provide this feedback.

I was told that Microsoft forum support team can provide feedback to the development team, and asked by a Microsoft phone support person to provide feedback on this forum.

I am requesting that the Microsoft forum support team forward my request (to add the feature to allow blocking of premium content to family setting) to the Microsoft xbox development team.

Was I upset when I wrote the original message: Yes! it seemed to me that this setting was not included on purpose to increase sales.  Even if that is not the case, it is a significant gap in the options under family settings.

Either way, I want to request that this setting be added, so I can purchase premium content from Marketplace in the future.

As it is I have blocked all purchases by cancelling my credit card attached to my account, and plan on not making any purchases on xbox market place until this is resolved.  I have also decided not to purchase a Microsoft phone (Which I was about to do and since it is linked to the Microsoft live account), unless this issue is addressed.  As a customer I can choose to do that.  I am choosing to do this since I was informed that Microsoft does not offer any protection on any purchases made using Microsoft points, and because I discovered that I can not prevent similar misuse in the future due to the way xbox family setting options are set.

Having your child on a child account is prevention you can block purchases and require a password to make purchases or account changes on the said account

Look under family online safety settings

Set to not allow premium content purchases On child accounts

Therefore you can put a passcode on your master account and the child can login into child account under your family plan

The tools are there if you use them

Kalahari: I understand where you are coming from, and your concern here. However, my recommendation would be to either log out of your account when you are not there to supervise its use, or just make the controller less accessible. Sorry again for any inconvenience you have experienced!

Appreciate the response.  Since I disagree with the xbox marketplace policies in this incident, I have decided to withhold purchase worth $2400 from microsoft since I lost 2400 Microsoft points, and did not receive a satisfactory resolution.  Also, I had to cancel my credit card attached to my account since it could not be removed.

Since I have already lost all my Microsoft points, and the credit card attached to the account is no longer active, my daughter can use the remote all she wants.  So I guess the issue is resolved for the future anyway.  While this means that I will not be purchasing any market place items until the shortcomings in the interface are addressed, I am ok with that.

I'm very sorry to hear that you are unsatisfied with our marketplace and security features. At this time, there is no feature exactly like the one you are describing. If you want, you can post about that in our Wishlist/Feedback forum as a suggestion for future updates to the LIVE service.

I would also like to suggest that you can purchase some games and add-on content via prepaid cards, removing the need for a credit card or points at all.

I respect your decision here; we want to make sure that you are both happy and comfortable with your service, especially when it comes to your money and account security. If you do have any other issues in the future, please do consider us as a means of support. Thank you for your feedback!

I agree with kalahari!  I am certain that microsoft has had to deal with the issues a lot.  I have a two year old who likes to watch Dora or other cartoons on Netflix.  I used to let him have the controller to choose whether to play one of his games or to watch a cartoon.  Then one day he purchased a game online, this was with the family settings turned on and a passcode that he does not know.  We were avoiding purchasing a family plan as we only need the one account, so why pay extra?  Honestly, microsoft support has been very friendly and has reimbursed our money.  It just seems things would be a lot easier if we had to type a passcode any time Microsoft points are purchased.  As it stands we are removing our credit card from the account.

Hey Krzywlf! I totally understand where you guys are coming from. What we recommend doing is giving your child their own local or Free account and not attach any payment methods. Any games downloaded by your account on this console can be played by any other account, so the children do not need to directly purchase content themselves. To prevent any mistakes, you can then add a passcode to your account so they can't accidentally log into yours. Does that makes sense? Let me know if you have any other questions or concerns.
