Windows Live Mail and Calendars

Windows 10

Started today 11/20/2015 whenever I access Windows Live Mail (2012)  I get an error message 'There was an error when attempting to connect to the Windows Live Calendar service, check to see if there's an upgrade of Windows Live Mail available or contact a service representative.  I saw a reply for this problem dated 12/2014 but it did not address this problem in Win 10.  Please advise.  The PC was a Win 8.1 before the upgrade.

Thank you!

Hi All,

Same problem W10, advice from the Outlook email to install the KB update.

Mine had the same issues as the other's. Uninstalling Win Live Mail and re installing made no improvement.

From reading these post's, for Win 10, I seem to resolved my crashing, and forced close, by going from the Mail page down to the bottom left to the where it has icons for Mail, Calendar, Feeds and selecting Calendar.

Once on the Calendar page, about the middle left under in my case MSN.COM (my email acct type) there are 3 ticked boxes, untick the one for Calendar which synchronizes the Calendar with the email's.

I then restarted the PC and W L Mail  & Calendar worked again separately,  but no more crash and close of the WLM.

Rob.

Find " ripristino" on Cortana, and then Restore option, then you have to choose the last restore point (punto di ripristino) the pc created.....and you solve. No files are cancelled, don't be worry

Just in case you want to uninstall the Hotfix KB3093594 (d-Mail.msp) you could run the following command in an elevated command line:

Msiexec /package {B775C26B-EAA8-4A11-ACBF-76E52DF6B805} /uninstall {342DCD5D-5946-453B-97AC-D53B7662EDF5}

Don't start Windows Live Mail 2012 yet and reboot.

You need to click "Repair", when the msp wizards asks to remove or repair the application.

After that you can synchronize the calendar again (until Microsoft really switches the support off, as mentioned in the email).

When this happens, you should open Live Mail, logoff (the icon with your avatar on the right in the menu bar, logoff from Windows Live Mail), close Live Mail, reinstall d-Mail.msp, reboot and never click the Logon button again. You can still use your POP3 and IMAP accounts but no calendar synchronization until Microsoft fixes the wcsync.dll.

Didn't read the system requirements, did you!

I just posted this elsewhere:

Users who install the patch on Windows 10 may find that the program crashes soon after start. This will only happen if the user is automatically signed in on program start, or attempts to sign in later. Some users have found that they can prevent this crash by running the program in Windows 8 compatibility mode:

    1. Install the patch when no programs are running. The program may open and crash - if it doesn't, close it down and wait a few minutes.

    2. Reboot the computer.

    3. Open File Explorer (Windows key  + E) and navigate to
      C:\Program Files (x86)\Windows Live\Mail*
      and open the folder.

    4. Right-click on wlmail.exe and select Properties. On the Compatibility tab, select Run this program in compatibility mode for > Windows 8.
    5. Click Apply and OK, then launch Windows Live Mail and test.

* Assuming you have a 64-bit system. If yours is a 32-bit system, leave out ' (x86)' from the file path.

The Restore or Ripristino in italian language did not run because it didn't find a suitable point, ok

The command suggested  by Alexander Freudenberg seems to have solved but I'm noting an high usage of CPU (32%) is someone finding the same issue?

Yes, I've seen this too, but it was resolved by itself after a minute or so.

Thanks for this, i was actually about to give up when i gave it a last ditch effort to search on these forums (which usually doesnt help at all).

Removing that hotfix solved everything.

Thank you.

TBH the system requirements were not made obvious at all. There was no mention of this in the email, and unless you expand the  system requirements on the KB download page, you'd be none the wiser - not everyone out there would know to check - this is where MS has utterly failed yet again. At the very least, the update should have refused to install on Windows 10 if it would break things on there. Even then, the update appears to break the Calendar, which many people use and sync regularly.
