windows mail cant be opened a software restriction policy is keeping it from opening

You’ve to do a small modification in the system registry to get your Windows mail back to work. Before you do this step, did you try running Windows Mail in administrator mode. Right click on Windows mail and click on Run as administrator. Check if Windows mail opens without any problems.

However serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you follow these steps carefully. For added protection, back up the registry before you modify it. Then, you can restore the registry if a problem occurs.

Here is what you need to do.

1. Open the Start Menu.

2. In the white line (Start Search) area, type regedit and press Enter.

3. Click on the Continue button in the UAC prompt.

4. In regedit, go to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft

5. To Disable Windows Mail -

             A) In the left pane, right click on Microsoft and click on New and Key. Type Windows Mail and press Enter.
NOTE : If you already have Windows Mail in the left pane, then skip this step 5A and go to step 5B instead.

            B) In the right pane of Windows Mail, right click on a empty space and click on New and DWORD (32-bit) Value. Type ManualLaunchAllowed and press Enter.

            C) Go to step 7.

6. To Enable Windows Mail -

                A) In the right pane, right click on ManualLaunchAllowed and click on Delete.
                B) Click on Yes to confirm deletion.

7. Close regedit.

8. Log off and log on, or restart the computer to apply.
