Can't load Web pages that have Adobe Flash using Windows 8 RT

I have just purchased the Surface tablet with windows 8rt OS. I am having problems that whenever I try to open a page on IE8 that requires Adobe Flash Player, the page does not load and a message comes up to download Adobe Flash. However when I go to the Flash download site it says that this version of Flash Player is incompatible with windows 8rt. I have tried nearly everything but still cannot get it to work.

 

So what's the problem!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

 

Also when trying to view Eurosport Player, again I get an incompatibly message telling me that Silverlight is required and will not play. Again the same problem when trying to download, incompatibility!!!!

 

So come on Microsoft what's wrong???

 

if you expect this tablet to go against the iPad then at least get the thing working!!!

How are you using IE8 in Windows 8?

Did you mean Windows 8?

Which website are you trying to open and does it contain any flash advertisement?

You may install the player in compatibility mode.

Sorry meant IE10.

The website I am trying to use is http://ukrp.musicradio.com/xfm/london/live where I listen to live streaming from UK radio station XFM. yes it does have advertisement.

How can I install in compatibility mode?

I have tried as per the Microsoft web site, where on IE10 go to Tools>compatibility view settings>add and then add the website page but still cannot view page.

any help really appreciate also with Silverlight problem on streaming tv coverage from www.eurosportplayer.co.uk

Yes, I'm having the same issue. I get an error saying I need to have Flash installed to play videos but cannot install Flash from the Adobe site. Also, when I try to run the video in Silverlight, it tells me I need the Silverlight player installed but I cannot install it from the Microsoft site. How can I get these two essential add-ons to work on my Surface with Windows 8 RT?

Microsoft has elected to not include Silverlight, or the option to get Silverlight, in Windows RT (or, to my knowledge, other versions of Windows 8). As for flash, using the Internet Explorer Metro app only allows Flash content from a whitelist of sites, which can be manually edited but is a pain to do so.

 

More convenient may be to simply open the site in the Desktop Internet Explorer, which ignores said whitelist. If it still doesn't work the problem may be something else.

Flash doesn't work the desktop IE10 RT either unless the website is white-listed. I've checked my own site and others and the flash part doesn't work. In one site I could log in to my account but the flash part showing details of my account didn't function.  Note that Flash is supposed to work on IE10 on W8 without being on a white list but not on IE10 on W8 RT as RT is a different operating system.

I've also gone to the trouble of updating the whitelist but it still tells me I have to have Flash version 9 or higher.

Microsoft really needs to re-think this whitelist idea. As the owner of the equipment, I should have the option to use a white list or not as it suits my purposes.

I have seen forum posts which suggest that you can add a site to the white list by editing a file on your computer registry but this won't help your own website for others to see the Flash content. Microsoft need to add your own website to their white list after checking your site meets certain coding requirements for other people to see the Flash.

 

This site http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ie/jj193557(v=vs.85).aspx says "Internet Explorer 10 for the desktop provides the same full Flash support as previous versions of Windows Internet Explorer that relied on the Flash Player plug-in from Adobe, and continues to support other third party plug-ins." and "While any site can play Flash content in Internet Explorer 10 for the desktop, only sites that are on the Compatibility View (CV) list for Flash can play Flash content within Internet Explorer 10 in the the new Windows UI."

 

This comment about being able to play Flash on IE10 on W8 desktop doesn't apply to W8 RT IE10 desktop, I've tried it, as RT is a different operating system. Both versions of IE on w8 RT appear to need to be on the white list.
