How do I save a picture from Gmail to my new Windows 8 computer?

I have a new laptop that runs on Windows 8 (whatever the new one is).  I work out of my gmail email account, which I access through Google Chrome. 

When I receive a picture (or pdf file for that matter), I click to download, and I see it downloads at the bottom of my screen.  

I cannot figure out how to save it.  If I open the file, it opens up in a very limited app view that gives me one option -- delete it or set it as an app tile or background.  I cannot right click on it while the file is open to save it to my c drive.  There is no 'file' option.  I cannot even right click on it while it is just a download icon at the bottom of gmail.  If I right click on the image as it is displayed within the gmail text, it saves the image as a low res file. 

I want NOTHING to do with Flickr or any of the other apps it seems to want me to dump all my jpgs to.  I simply want full control over my jpg files I download from the Internet.  How do I save it where I want to save it?

You don't need to "save " it - it's in the Downloads folder.

Open File Explorer and navigate to your Downloads folder. There you can move it, copy it, delete it or open it.
