I receive the error message unable to register the DLL/OCX:RegSvr32 failed with exit code 0x3 when attempting to install Sonar X1 a music DAW.

In Windows 7 What does this mean? and how can I fix it? Thanks

Answer

Hi,

cakewalk sonar X1 is compatible with Windows 7.

 http://www.microsoft.com/windows/compatibility/windows-7/en-us/Search.aspx?l=en-us&type=Software&s=cakewalk%20sonar%20X1

Error 3 means "path not found". It's because the DLL or OCX is missing, or a dependency is missing. Most likely, the setup program was unable to write one of the files. This can be caused by having a file in use, or insufficient Windows permissions.

Method 1: Install the program in elevated mode and see if that helps.

Follow the step mentioned below:

Right click on the .exe file of the program  and click on run as adminstrator.

Method 2:  Fix problems with programs that can't be installed or uninstalled:

Method 3:  Install the program in clean boot and see if that helps.

Note: After you have finished diagnosing, follow step 7 in the article to boot to normal startup.
