Error burning a CD - Windows Media Player cannot burn the files. If the burner is busy, wait for the current task to finish. If necessary, verify that the burner is connected properly and that you have installed the latest device driver.

What is the make and model of the CD drive?

Method 1:

Open the playing and burning CD/DVD troubleshooter and check if lists and fixes any issues -

Method 2:

You may use the below steps and check if these help -
a. Open Task Manager.
NOTE: Press CTRL+SHIFT+ESC, or right click on the taskbar and click on Task Manager.
b. Click on the Process tab.
c. Click on Show processes from all users.
NOTE: This elevates the Task Manager. If you do not this, then you will receive error when you try to log off the user.
d. Now check if there is a process for burning CD which is still running.
e. If you have the process, click on the process and the click on End process. If you have more than one process running in this name you may end process for each one and then check if you get the same error.

Method 3:

You may check if you face the same issue with a different CD. Also you may try to reinstall the burning software and check if you face the same issue.

I would also suggest you to remove and reinstall the existing drivers and then check. To do this, follow these steps:

a. ClickStart, and then clickControl Panel.

b. ClickSystem and Maintenance, clickSystem, and then clickDevice Manager.
Note If Control Panel is in Classic View, double-click System, and then clickDevice Manager.
If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, type the password, or clickAllow.

c. In Device Manager, expandDVD/CD-ROM drives, right-click the CD and DVD devices, and then clickUninstall.

d. When you are prompted to confirm that you want to remove the device, clickOK.

e. Restart the computer.

After the computer restarts, the drivers will be automatically installed.

Check if you have any exclamation or cross marks along with the driver listed in device manager.

If the issue persists follow the above procedure as provided and under the driver tab click on update driver and check if you get any recommended drivers from windows. Refer to the below mentioned link for further assistance to update the driver:
