How do I redirect the LPT1 port to a network printer in Windows 7 Professional?

Under XP I was able to print from an old DOS program to a network printer using the command 'net use lpt1:\\computer name\printer share name/persistent:yes' from a batch file. Since upgrading my computer to HP Probook with Windows Professional 32 bit + SP1, I am unable to print from DOS in the same way. When the batch file is run it gives "System error 67, network name cannot be found". The actual command used is "net use lpt1:\\Geoff\CanoniR/persistent:yes". The computer & printer share names are correct. I have ensured that the printer can be shared and have tried disabling Windows and F-Secure fire walls, to no avail. I am able to print from Windows programs to the Canon network printer without any problems. How do I redirect the LPT1 port to the network printer under Windows 7?

The space is definitely needed and you are now at least getting a meaningful error message.  (The 67 with the space just means an altogether invalid resource name is being tried and is of no use in  further trouble shooting).

The net use command, in general, certainly does work in Windows 7 for many things, but I am also not sure if it will work for printer redirection.  Perhaps someone else can confirm.

The links below are not terribly helpful but FWIW.

An elevated command prompt means one run as administrator (i.e. elevated privileges).  Running your batch file as administrator is equivalent.
