how to create mirror'd disks?

I have 2x 1TB HDD's, both connected to my computer via SATA (well, one via SATA the other via eSATA).  One has data on it already and I'd like to make the second one mirror the first.   Unfortunately,  I'm not sure how to do this.  I right click on the second disk but "New Mirrored Volume..." is grayed out.  I convert it to a dynamic disk and it's still grayed out.

Do I need to make the first disk a dynamic volume as well?  Will doing this or making it have a mirror erase my data?
