I have been fighting for months, trying to get color calibration to work on my laptop (the gamma settings are way too dark), but every attempt fails with one of two errors:
- Display Color Calibration can't save the new calibration. Close other programs that are open, and then try again. Element not found.
- Display Color Calibration can't turn off Windows calibration management. Element not found.
The first error occurs when I run the calibration tool directly and try to save the new settings (the actual process of calibration works fine). The second error occurs when I try to run the calibration tool through Control Panel in an attempt to modify the settings at the System level (in this case, the calibration process doesn't even start properly).
The laptop is a Sony Vaio VGN-AR770 (pre-installed with Windows Vista, converted to Linux, then converted to Windows 7 with a full disk format and install - not an upgrade from Vista) and the graphics card is NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT. The graphics driver is the most recent that I'm allowed to use: due to some sort of exclusivity bull between NVIDIA and Sony, I cannot install drivers from NVIDIA directly (when I try the installer balks). I have to go through Sony to get the latest driver but Sony won't provide anything newer than the Vista driver from 2008 for that graphics card and my laptop model. Downloading a more recent driver by claiming I have different (but compatible) hardware also fails.
Help with this problem would be extremely appreciated and I am making zero headway on my own.
