Windows 7 Taskbar Color (Not Aero)

How can I change the taskbar color when not using Aero? I have a reasonably powerful computer but I like to pinch every bit of speed I can get from it and that includes not using Aero. Currently the taskbar is blue however I would like a simple black setup.

Any help is appreciated.

Did you know that Aero lets your computer perform better than basic/classic?  In fact, to get the most speed:  just turn off transparency but leave Aero on.

Aero uses your video card to store the image of every running application.  This way, when you move a window (or maximize one), your CPU and the application itself never even know about it!  In the old days (GDI desktop processing, which is used in basic/classic mode), the OS would have to ask the application to 're-draw itself' every time, which is why dragging a window around without Aero on causes lag and those weird trails when under heavy load.

If you have a powerful computer with a decent graphics card, Aero will give you much better performance.  Try it, you won't be disappointed.

(XP used GDI, which is why turning off the themes gave you better performance.  This isn't true anymore.)

You may change the color of the Taskbar from the steps below:

1.      Right click on the empty space on the desktop.

2.      Click on Personalize.

3.      Click on Windows Color to the bottom of window.

4.      Click on dropdown for Show Color Mixer.

5.      Now you can move the sliders accordingly and change the required color.
