Can't Download Any Microsoft Store Apps - Error 0x80D03805

Windows 10 Home Edition

Version: 1803

Build: 17134

Every time I attempt to download any apps/games/etc from the Microsoft store the app begins downloading but very shortly afterwards states: "Error: See Details". If you click on "See Details" it states that something unexpected happened and gives the error code: 0x80D03805.

I have tried the following troubleshooting steps (not in any particular order):

1. Reset the Microsoft Store app from the Apps & Features section of the Settings application.

2. Cleared the Microsoft Store cache using the wsreset.exe command from an elevated command prompt.

3. Restarted Windows Update service.

4. Renamed the SoftwareDistribution folder under C:\Windows\

5. Re-registered the Microsoft Store app from PowerShell using the following command:

Get-AppXPackage | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register "$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml"}

6. Ran dism.exe /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth from elevated command prompt.

7. Ran SystemFileCheck, sfc /scannow.

8. Ran the Windows Store Apps Troubleshooter.

9. Logged into a different Microsoft account in the store, same issue.

Throughout all the above troubleshooting I have been restarting the machine to ensure any changes were applied. Nothing has worked. My machine is completely up-to-date. I would post my Update History page from the settings but it currently shows nothing despite the fact that I'm on the latest version of Windows 10 and there have been quite a few updates recently (could be related???).

I have attempted every troubleshooting step I can possibly think of to resolve this short of reinstalling Windows (I'd like to avoid this option). Has anyone tried any other options? This seems to be a common issue but I can't find anything that definitively resolved it.

You have done EVERYTHING that is possible to fix this that we would have suggested.
I know you said you did not want to install windows again.
But there is another solution that yes, re-installs windows but over-top.
Meaning you wont' have to wipe your machine and lose data or applications.
This is called a repair upgrade.
See the link below by Andre Da Costa on how to do this.

See if that works.

Hey Sarah,

Thank you for the response! I tried your suggestion today but unfortunately the issue remains. I downloaded the Windows Media Tool creation application and ran the setup (did not choose to make removable media). It went through the Windows 10 install process successfully.

I encounter the same issue with the store. I did notice that it retained all my Windows settings and did not reset them as I thought it might. For example, I have "People" turned off on the Task Bar and this setting was retained. I haven't checked too much but I assume all my other settings have remained as well.

If all my settings were retained I wonder if the Registry was reset with the repair or not? If there was an issue with a registry key related to Windows Updates or the Store it might have been retained. I checked the keys related to disabling auto updates and other update related settings but none that would disable updates appear to be present.

I have not found a way to reset particular "sections" of the Registry without having a prior backup (which I don't have) and I'm sure reverting to the absolute default registry settings would cause issues with applications that have been installed and use registry keys for any purpose.

It's looking like a full wipe and reload is the only thing that might work, but I'm not sure if I'm willing to do that for one game I'd like to play. If that is the only option, I will see if I can get a refund for the game and wait till it comes out on Steam.

If you can think of anything else that might possibly help let me know :)

I think you are right about the full wipe.
Seems you will need to do a clean install.
Sorry about that.

Is this really the best you can come up with? Re-install windows?? Probably it will be the same when it updates itself.

the wsreset command did something, I don't get the error anymore, but the store has no network activity, just spinning saying downloading.

found it here

I fixed it. I went to computer management/services and started Microsoft Store Install Service, Windows Installer, Windows Update Medic Service(these were all on manual start) and restarted Windows Update. I don't know which fixed it, I did it all and then tried to download the app and it worked.

Only freaking MICROSOFT would think that REINSTALLING the operating system is the RIGHT THING TO DO TO FIX A PROGRAMMING PROBLEM!!

Man I was real excited to see a fix that someone could say worked for sure, but I'm still at a loss with mine. I did what you said you did and I'm still getting the error.

Ultimately, I did reinstall Windows and that did resolve the issue. Though I agree that reinstalling Windows is not a fix that Microsoft should ever suggest themselves, the person assisting me was not with Microsoft.

I had done custom registry edits in the past that included disabling automatic updates (cuz Windows would decide it was okay to update while I was playing online games and I had decently slow internet access at the time). I did thoroughly check for the registry keys that had related to disabling updates and those were not present. Those keys seemed to have been changed with a Windows update and Windows returned to automatically updating at will.

I'm sure that the issue was a combination of the registry edits and some problem caused by Windows update that crippled the Windows Store app.

For anyone experiencing the same issue I do recommend following the same procedure I did before wiping and reloading to see if it helps you. For reference I tried:

Get-AppXPackage | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register "$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml"}

6. Ran dism.exe /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth from elevated command prompt.

7. Ran SystemFileCheck, sfc /scannow.

8. Ran the Windows Store Apps Troubleshooter.

9. Logged into a different Microsoft account in the store.

These are all steps I compiled from others who experienced similar issues and many times one or more of these resolved the issue for those people. Hopefully one of them helps anyone else experiencing this problem.

It is my wife's laptop that needs to be repaired. I know she has stated that she has done some of the attempted resolutions in your list, but not all. So I'll get back up with you after either she or I has done all the stuff on your list and/or reinstalled windows to let you know if it has been fixed.
