Unable to download KB3176495 update, stops at 61%

Original title: KB3176495

The KB3176495 began to download and it is now stopped at 61% and not advancing. I tried closing and then going back into Settings and it still shows the same 61%.

Does anyone know what is happening and how to correct?

Please advise soonest as this is my grandson's first computer and he is very nervous that it might be broken.

Hi Alice,

I realize that you are unable to download the KB3176495 update in Windows 10, let me assist you.

This issue might occur if the Windows update components are corrupted or if some software or service is causing the issue.

I suggest you to perform the below troubleshooting methods and check if it helps.

Method 1: Run the Windows Update troubleshooter.

  • Type Troubleshooting in the search and select Troubleshooting.

  • Click on View all option in the left pane.

  • Find and click on the Windows update troubleshooter.

  • Follow the on-screen instructions.

If the issue still persists, try method 2.

Method 2: Perform a Clean boot to disable startup programs and services.

Clean boot is performed to start Windows by using a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. This helps eliminate software conflicts that occur when you install a program or an update or when you run a program

Refer to the article below on How to perform a clean boot in Windows and check if it helps.

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/929135

Note: Once you are done with clean boot, refer to the section: How to reset the computer to start normally after clean boot troubleshooting in the article to put your computer back to normal startup.

Hope the information helps. Kindly write back to us with the updated status of the issue for further assistance on Windows. We will be glad to assist you.

It got stuck on two of my computers too, but eventually finished after a couple of hours.

I just restarted my machine and went back into windows update.  It showed that the install had failed and I clicked retry and the progress bar jumped to 80% and finished.  I think for the status bar is just not being updated in a timely manner for the update so it looks like it is frozen even though it is still downloading.

MS has really created a mess with the Critical Updates for Vista and Win7. And they don't seem to be doing anything to fix it. We, the long time customers of MS, are finding it more and more difficult to download/install critical updates. I'm surprised no action has been taken to have MS fix this situation. MS stopped updating WinXP, but they are still supposed to be supporting Vista and Win7. Why aren't they doing it?
