Hi all,
Thanks to Daniel Strommen on twitter for suggesting I post a request for help here.
I have two Windows10 PCs and a couple of Android tablets. I will be travelling a couple of times a month for work this year, so I decided to set up a Minecraft Realm so I could play Minecraft while I'm away with my autistic son.
The PCs run Minecraft Win10 edition and the tablets run MCPE (which are interoperable, so this shouldn't be a drama).
The problem came when I tried to create my son a XBox live profile.
He doesn't yet use email, but I have an email server at home, so I used his home email address as the account name, received the activation link and added him to the family I created on my MS account. My account links properly with my XBL account.
I can log in to the W10 Xbox app (and in Minecraft) with my son's account, but can't join the Realm because of the default privacy settings in his account. When I try to edit his privacy settings logged in with his account, it takes me to this page:
https://support.xbox.com/en-AU/my-account/manage-gamertag-and-profile/add-child-to-family-account-online
Logged into my MS account page, clicking on "Manage my child's profile info" opens this page https://account.live.com/mykids.aspx?mkt=en-US - which says only this:
Manage
permissions
In the United States and South Korea, legislation requires that children have adult consent before creating an online account. You can use this page to manage the child accounts for which you provided consent. Learn more
Opening up the XBox Privacy and online safety settings page would show my Gamertag icon, but not my son's with his linked account.
But in happy news, I just went to try it again to put links and info in this post and have discovered that it actually worked this time, so someone has obviously done something behind the scenes!
The XBox online live chat solutions were:
- Delete and re add child account
- Re add child account as an adult account (this made me uneasy)
- Create a new account with a different email address (also uneasy making more of an online footprint for my child)
In any event, it seems to be working now.
If only I could get MCW10 on my desktop PC to log into XBL properly, I'll be all set!
