[Windows 10] Display Garbled Intermittently

Hi All. Running a Dell XPS 15z with Nvidia GT 525m. Upgraded to Windows 10 from 7 Pro and occasionally the screen will spaz out and appear as attached, usually prompted by using the touchpad or mouse. The quickest fix I've found is to change the display orientation with Ctrl+Alt+direction key. Changing the display resolution also resets the issue. I've uninstalled both the intel display drivers and the Nvidia drivers in turn and the problem persists. Reinstalling the drivers did not fix the issue.

I cannot return to Windows 7 due to Windows 10 reset option. I'm at my wits end..! Is anyone familiar with this issue? Is there a fix?

I've experienced the same issue about three times since installing Windows 10 a couple of days ago. This is on a Dell Vostro 3750 with same Geforce 525m GPU.

On all occasions, when choosing to restart the laptop, windows begins installing updates.

I'm having the exact same issue. XPS 15z - Screen flicker, restart and updates are installed. I am able to get rid of the flicker by just closing the lid and opening it again.

Hello Derek,

We apologies for the inconvenience caused to you.

Screen flickering in Windows 10 is usually caused by incompatible apps or display drivers. To determine whether an app or driver is causing the problem, check to see if Task Manager flickers. Then, based on that information, you'll need to either uninstall the app or update the display driver.

Refer: Troubleshoot screen flickering in Windows 10

Kindly let us know if you need any further assistance with the issue. We are glad to assist you.

Thanks & regards,

Abdul Malik

If you look at the screen image at the top of this thread you'll see what type of flickering we are talking about. I've uninstalled and updated to the latest drivers. There's no way to see the task manager while the screen is flickering as you can see by the image.

Hi,

Thanks for the update on the issue.

If the issue persists, it will be prudent for us to review event logs on your system for this issue and proceed with the troubleshooting in targeted direction.

Event logs are special files that record significant events on your computer, such as when a user logs on to the computer or when a program encounters an error. Whenever these types of events occur, Windows records the event in an event log that you can read by using Event Viewer. Advanced users might find the details in event logs helpful when troubleshooting problems with Windows and other programs. To open Event Viewer:

  1. Right Click the Start Button and select Control Panel from the list.

  2. At the top right corner, change the view type to large icons or small icons. In Control Panel Click Administrative Tools.

  3. In Administrative Tools click Computer Management.

  4. In Computer Management click Event Viewer.

  5. In Event Viewer, filter the logs and select Copy the logs and post here with the reply.

It will help us find out what is causing the issue.

Regards,
Sahil Bali

I found an old driver that worked for this very issue...only ever happened to me on battery power. If you still need it. Just ask and I'll send you a link.

If interested, I also contacted Cypress for a driver for the trackpad which they managed to update for W10 and works way better than it ever did previously.

Were you able to resolve this issue?

I'm having the same problem (Dell Inspiron 14R N4110, Intel HD Graphics 3000).

I have tried updating the display driver, but the problem continues.

Suggestions?
