Problem with Connecting to a VPN

I have a couple of VPN connections that work fine. But, one specific connection gives me the following error: "It was not possible to verify the identity of the server". Using my Android phone with the same exact login credentials, I am able to connect to the VPN without any problems. However, when I try to do so from my computer, I get the above message.

I have a Surface Pro 6 with Windows 10 updated to the most recent update (20H2).

Any suggestions on how to get this to work?

Thanks.

Steve

The explanation of error 778 is “It was not possible to verify the identity of the server“. There are several possible causes of this problem.

1.The network connectivity has problem. Please verify the network connectivity of VPN server. We could ping the server from the client with the server’s IP address. And L2TP uses the UDP 1701, please verify the port was opened.

2.The VPN server can’t authenticate the user account. So please check the about all settings.

In addition, have you looked all related logs in the VPN client and the VPN server? To troubleshoot this issue, these logs are very useful.

if you can not connect to VPN try these steps

Open Device Manager (winlogo+X)

Find Network Adapters

Uninstall WAN Miniport (IP), WAN Miniport(IPv6) and WAN Miniport (PPTP).

Click Action > Scan for hardware changes

The adapters you just uninstalled should come back

Try connecting again

I can try that, but I am able to connect to other VPNs, just not the one home VPN. That is what is so frustrating.

Just thought I would respond and say I have not found any solution for this problem.

I am able to connect to the same specific VPN with my phone, but cannot connect to this same specific VPN with my computer.

I am able to connect to other VPNs on both my phone and computer without any problem.

I have tried every solution suggested. None of them works.

Thanks.
