0x800ccc62 outlook error messsage

Am currently in Canada and using Outlook 2010 for my email (on Windows 7 OS). Receiving emails is OK but when sending, I get the following message:

Task '*** Email address is removed for privacy *** - Sending' reported error (0x800CCC62) : 'Your outgoing (SMTP) e-mail server has reported an internal error. If you continue to receive this message, contact your server administrator or Internet service provider (ISP).'

Are you able to help me here as it was working OK in the USA and I've not changed any settings since then. PlusNet (my ISP) say it's something to do with Microsoft and I should contact them!
